I would advise to do the other way around. Take the cable cart going up. The South Entrance is the one with the cable cart. Anyway from any other entrances you can take the small electric cars which will take you to different parts of the park. All details are in English too. Full details you can find on gzshopper. Enjoy it!

Taxis are very easy to get. Just show them the place: 白云山 (Baiyun mountain) When you arrive, take the Gondola up to the top... You can also take it back down. Avoid going on any holidays or weekends. It's very nice. You'll have a great time

I’m looking to hike to the top of Baiyan Mountain and back, how long does the trip take?
A:
It took my family just over an hour including stopping for pics. The road is paved. It's more like walking up an inclined road.

There are manu entrances to the park, the cable car ride i believe is specifically at the west entrance. You will know youre at the right place because there will be signs that say cable car in English everywhere. The ride is definitely worth it. The views are gorgeous and id say its like a 15 minute ride. You can choose to ride up and walk down (which has alot of great sites to stop in and see on the way down) or you can ride the car right back down. Walking up and down is any option too but its a steep climb. Price will depend on which of the three you choose. To get there i recommend bus or taxi, its a looooonnnnggg walk from a subway. Also, bring an umbrella for sun protection. October may be cooler, but this summer held a continuous record high in guangzhou so if you are going midday it wouldn't hurt to be prepared for the heat and humidity that guangzhou is known for most of the year. Anyways the whole park is great, i recommend the cable car and walking down. There are a bunch of great food/trinket vendors once you are at the bottom again of the walking trail. Lastly, TO BE SAFE BRING YOUR PASSPORT. For whatever reason at alot of places they are requiring foreigners to have their passport so bring it just in case. I dont remember if i had to present mine or not but it was a common thing i had to undergo. Hope you enjoy it.
