Beautiful building and interior, with a highly impressive collection. We only had around 1.5 hours available to us, but could have spent all day. A must do for visitors. Full review by JGlet

I feel a bit bad for not raving about this place. The building is great, of course. We looked at the William Blake exhibition and liked the presentation of it, but felt it lacking in sufficient biogr… Full review by davidbX9852NI

Anti-white racism has gripped the museum, as with many others. They've begun removing timeless works of art depicting the British countryside as they may invoke feelings of "pride towards a homeland"… Full review by Gareth W

There is so much more to see in Cambridge than the Fitzwilliam Museum and it would be a great shame to miss out on some of the stunning colleges. Ely Cathedral is also magnificent and special. I recommend doing a tour of the tower and roof. Can't advise about using a train to get there as all travel was done with a hire car. Traffic around London can be gridlocked for hours so a train may be a better option, however, highly recommend that you spend more than a day in Cambridge. The town itself is a historic gem. It depends what your interests are but in my view the Ashmolean in Oxford has a superior art/painting collection.

That would depend very much on the 5 year old. My seven year old today found the Death on the Nile exhibition pretty dull. But she loved the rest of the museum particularly the hugely varied ground floor galleries. But an Egyptian fanatic might like it. The downstairs Egyptian galleries might be better for a young one, more animals etc. What you might want to try is the Museum of Archeology and Anthropology (also free to enter but check opening days and times.) my daughter loved it particularly the quiz where you get your paper stamped etc.
