Wonderful place to visit. Unique place in the US that is in an unexpected area. Had a great time climbing the dunes with our friends and taking pictures. We didn't bring anything to slide down the du… Full review by JessicaMesler2020

We visited this national park for a day. We went early since we were there in July. Granted, it would be more pleasant in cooler weather as we were not motivated to walk too far over the dunes. Walk… Full review by NF2013_13

Best place to camp in a pop-up. I have two small boys and a dog. Needs hookups. I would really like a place with a camp fire and great view of the sky.
A:
We stayed at the nearby KOA, only about 20 minutes from the Dunes Nat’l park. It had all the amenities, and a great view from the campground of the mountains.

Reservations are likely for the campgrounds--not for day use. But apparently they are doing that at the gate which causes delays. They may also be delaying people from entering the park to keep the numbers down. I saw them doing that at Black Canyon as well two weeks ago. My advice: 7:00 AM visitors--no problem with crowds...11:00 AM visitors...you take your chances.

Going last week in July with 2 dogs in a small SUV. Suggestions for our day with the dogs including what time we can get there?

Definitely go early and/or take something to put on your dog’s feet. We arrived at 10am and by 11am the sand was burning our feet when with sandals on. Many people were wearing socks only and that seemed to be a great way (for humans) to enjoy the sand dunes without worrying about shoes filling up with sand.
Q:
How cold was it when you went, Im going mid march and im afraid there will be snow or freezing.
A:
just run a forecast check before heading that way...could be ok but might not. I always do a 10 forecast before going anywhere I am not from.
