GM's luxury brand Cadillac had said it would sell only EVs by 2030 but now says consumer choice is dictating the lineup.

Don't be shocked to see combustion-powered Caddys into the next decade, as Cadillac officials have just announced that the brand is slowing its commitment to a pure EV lineup.

Speaking on the matter, spokesman Mike Albano added Cadillac will still have an all-electric lineup by 2030 but these vehicles will be accompanied by ICE offerings. He described the previous commitment to a BEV-only lineup as a “mission statement if you will.”

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Cadillac Global Vice President John Roth stated electric and combustion cars "will coexist for a number of years" but stopped short of offering a clear timeline. "The one thing I've learned in my 30-plus years about the auto industry is the auto industry does not follow a straight line and there are no absolutes,

"We'll be all-electric by 2030. Unless, you don't want that. In which case, we won't be. For the love of god, just please buy our cars." —Cadillac, probably.

Demand for the Lyriq, Caddys first all-electric model, is exceeding initial expectations. With EV sales slowing, Cadillac plans to retain vehicles using internal combustion engines if demand is there.
