Sam Ash has been struggling for years. The chain closed half its stores in March. The challenge for the company, which has been run since its founding in 1924 by the Ash family, is that online sales have siphoned off little chunks of its business that made the overall operation possible.

Another US retailer is closing its doors after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Rue21, which mostly sells teen apparel, will close all of its 540 stores across the United States, according to the court filings submitted last Thursday,

In a filing last week with U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the District of Delaware, Rue21 said it will close all of its stores over the next two months and hold “going out of business” sales. It will also sell its intellectual property.
