South Korean memory chipmaker SK Hynix said on Wednesday it plans to invest 5.3 trillion won ($3.86 billion) in a new dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip production base in South Korea.

SK Hynix has announced plans to expand production capacity for next-generation DRAM, including HBM, a critical component of AI infrastructure. This decision is in response to the growing demand for AI chips.

The South Korean memory-chip maker plans to invest an additional $14.6 billion to expand its semiconductor production capacity to meet growing demand for artificial-intelligence chips.
