A rare sword nicknamed ''Excalibur'' from the Spanish city of Valencia is 1,000 years old, meaning it was last wielded when much of Spain was controlled by Muslim rulers, new research reveals.

According to the team, this is one of only a handful of similar discoveries to be made in the region, making it a particularly unique find.

Origins of the “Excalibur” sword have been identified by archeologists in Valencia after it was first discovered in 1994. Archeologists are constantly making new discoveries, with Roman paintings recently uncovered on the walls of a building in Pompeii and the lost home of Rome’s first emperor found.
