A large fire with billowing smoke seen miles away burned Wednesday afternoon near a major highway in Newport, officials said.

Authorities are responding to a large structure fire Wednesday afternoon just off Highway 10 in Newport. The blaze sent a large plumes of dark smoke billowing over the highway during the two o'clock hour, as seen on highway cameras.

Firefighters are responding to an apparent fire in Newport on Wednesday afternoon. Heavy plumes of black smoke could be seen for miles coming from the area of Hastings Avenue and Tibbetts Place at around 2:30 p.m. No details were immediately available.
