Some Houston area school districts canceled classes Thursday following reports of rising levels of water along the East Fork of the San Jacinto River affecting parts of Montgomery, Harris and nearby counties.

The city of Beaumont is asking residents that experienced damage to property or business as a result of Thursday and Friday's storms to submit damages and losses through the Texas Division of Emergency Management's iSTAT damage surveys.

Huntsville, New Waverly, Shepherd and Willis Independent School Districts will remain closed through Thursday. Sam Houston State University cancelled classes for the day, officials said.
