NEW YORK -- A New York-area doctor was convicted Wednesday in the yearslong sexual abuse of multiple patients, including four children. Darius A. Paduch of North Bergen, New Jersey, was convicted by a jury in Manhattan federal court of all 11 counts pertaining to seven patients.

A urologist who worked at one of Manhattan's top hospitals —​ and lives in North Bergen —​ was convicted for sexually abusing patients.

Darius Paduch, who worked at several leading New York hospitals, has been accused of molesting hundreds of patients over 17 years.

He would make his patients believe the sexual abuse he inflicted on them was medically necessary and appropriate, federal prosecutors said.

U.S. attorney Anthony T. DiPietro said urologist Darius Paduch, "leveraged his position of trust as a medical doctor for his own perverse gratification."

“As a unanimous jury has just found, Darius A. Paduch leveraged his position of trust as a medical doctor for his own perverse gratification,” U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said in a statement. “For years, patients seeking needed medical care, many of them children, left his office as victims.”
