The requirement would be 0.7 milligrams of folic acid to every pound of masa if a bill proposed by state Rep.Joaquin Arambula passes.

Changes could be coming to the ingredients in many products made with corn masa, like tortillas and corn chips. Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula has authored Assembly Bill 1830. And if passed, it’ll require products like tortillas sold in California to contain folic acid.

If passed, the bill would require a manufacturer of corn masa flour to add folic acid at a level not to exceed 0.7 milligrams of folic acid per pound of corn masa flour.
