Dozens of demonstrators participating in pro-Palestine protests at university campuses throughout the country were arrested Wednesday evening, as schools struggle to contain growing anger over the Israel-Hamas war.

"Arrests being made right now & will continue until the crowd disperses," Gov. Greg Abbott said via social media. "These protesters belong in jail. Antisemitism will not be tolerated in Texas. Period. Students joining in hate-filled, antisemitic protests at any public college or university in Texas should be expelled."

Protesters against the war in Gaza were confronted by armed state troopers on the University of Texas Austin campus.

CT A man identified as a FOX 7 Austin photographer was arrested while livestreaming the station's broadcast of the pro-Palestinian demonstration taking place on the UT-Austin campus Wednesday. The station's livestream of the incident shows lines of Texas DPS agents pushing through protestors and the journalist's camera being knocked to the ground in the chaos.

Gov. Greg Abbott expressed support for the arrests, which come amid tensions on college campuses across the country over the Israel-Hamas war.

Some faculty at the University of Texas at Austin condemned the administration’s decision on Wednesday to call in state troopers to disperse a pro-Palestinian protest they said posed no threat of violence or disruption to classes.

Several protesters were handcuffed and loaded into police cars at a protest held by the Palestine Solidarity Committee on UT's campus.
