South African police are investigating if former President Jacob Zuma’s new political party forged supporters’ signatures to register for national elections next month

JOHANNESBURG - Police are probing claims of forged signatures submitted to the IEC by the UMkhonto WeSizwe Party. It follows a City Press expose where former Western Cape volunteer Lennox Ntsodo made the claims.

National police commissioner Fannie Masemola says the inquiry is still at the initial stage and they are verifying whether there is indeed a case to pursue.

The party of South Africa's ex-president Jacob Zuma has denied forging signatures required for it to run in next month's elections.
