Five of the injured troops were transported to a civilian hospital, with four released the next day, the Navy said.

A Norfolk-based sailor injured in a hovercraft collision off Florida coast earlier this week was transported to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth to continue treatment closer to home, according to the Navy.

The service members were injured in an “incident” involving two hovercraft vessels, also known as air-cushioned landing craft, according to a Thursday news release from the U.S. 2nd Fleet.

It happened on two Landing Craft Air Cushions from the USS Wasp and USS New York off the coast of Jacksonville, Florida.

Five sailors were medically evacuated for additional care to a hospital in Georgia, though four of them were released after treatment. One sailor remains in the hospital, according to an emailed statement from the service on Friday.
