Joining universities across the country, student protesters set up tents for an encampment to pressure Johns Hopkins to disinvest from Israel as outrage grows over the mounting death toll in Gaza

College administrators increased pressure Monday on protesters occupying tent encampments on campuses as the standoffs grew more tense around the region and beyond. At Harvard, administrators emailed letters to more than 30 undergraduates involved in the pro-Palestinian encampment on the Cambridge campus requesting that they appear before the university’s disciplinary committee.

Columbia University authorities have begun suspending student protesters involved in the pro-Palestinian protests on campus after the ignored a deadline to disband the encampments. The students had set up a Gaza Solidarity Encampment to demand divestment from Israel and companies that are allegedly contributing to its war against Hamas in Gaza and also a ceasefire to the ongoing war.
