Boeing has locked out its private force of firefighters who protect its aircraft-manufacturing plants in the Seattle area and brought in replacements after the latest round of negotiations with the firefighters’ union failed to deliver an agreement on wages.

Boeing locked out about 130 firefighters who work at its 737 factory and other operations in Washington state following a contract dispute between the jet maker and the firefighters’ union. Boeing and the union have been wrestling for months over wages and staffing levels for firefighters who handle medical emergencies and accidents at Boeing facilities.

At a news conference Friday, Harrell called the now-$1.45 billion proposal an "investment strategy that listens to everyone” and said he was “leading by listening.”
