Some of the worst flash floods in the last few days hit the Houston area, where crews rescued more than 400 people and more than 100 pets. Houston authorities have not reported any deaths or injuries, said Judge Lina Hidalgo, Harris County’s top elected official.

Rivers in Southeast Texas could be swollen for days or weeks, forecasters said, as multiple rounds of heavy rainfall continued on Sunday.

Flooding continues to plague parts of Texas as more heavy rain is expected to fall in the Houston region on Sunday. Numerous flood warnings were in place in and around Houston as creeks and rivers overflowed into communities.

Flooding from heavy rains has led to the rescue of hundreds of people from homes, rooftops and roads in Houston area.

Thousands of Texans have been displaced or under evacuation orders in places such as Polk, Montgomery and Harris counties. Schools and businesses have closed as roads and highways — especially in rural East Texas — were impassable.

Flood warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS) were issued on Saturday for Texas around the San Jacinto River, Navasota River and Peach Creek as more heavy rain strikes the Lone Star State over the weekend.
