‘Mega-rare’ bird spotted in Oregon, first reported sighting in US history
Clements said that it’s unclear how the bird may have arrived in the U.S., but added that a similar species, the rufous-tailed rock thrush, was also photographed in northern Alaska in 2021. The Alaska sighting was the first known record of the species in North America.
Blue Rock Thrush shocks US west-coast birders
US birders were left shocked when news came to light of a Blue Rock Thrush photographed on an Oregon beach. The bird, a male of the chestnut-bellied East Asian philippensis subspecies, was seen at Hug Point State Recreation Site early on 21 April by amateur photographer Michael Sanchez, who didn't realise the magnitude of his find at the time.
