A wide region has been swamped from Houston to rural East Texas, where game wardens rode airboats through waist-high waters rescuing people and pets who did not evacuate in time.

As rivers swell across South Texas, leaving homes and businesses flooded and thousands of people displaced, residents were looking skyward Sunday as more rain looms.

Officials rescued more than 400 people on Saturday from floods in parts of Texas. The National Weather Service says the rain that caused the flooding will continue through Sunday.
