Several U.S. Supreme Court justices on Wednesday expressed concerns about limiting the scope of the federal law banning workplace discrimination, in a case involving a St. Louis police officer who says she was transferred against her will because of her sex.

The officer, Jatonya Muldrow, said she had been transferred to a less desirable position based on her sex. Lower courts said that she had not shown concrete harm.

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments Wednesday in a case that could open up the definition of what qualifies as workplace discrimination in ways that could threaten corporate DEI policies.
