Northern Lights to illuminate skies over many U.S. states including Alaska, Washington, Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota.

A “strong geomagnetic storm” means faint auroras might be visible in Canada and northern United States cities Thursday night, though experts say you shouldn’t expect power grids and communications to be disrupted much.

Millions of people in the UK may be in with another chance to view the Aurora Borealis tonight, as ongoing magnetic disturbances mean the northern lights are visible much further south than usual.

Parts of the UK may get a display of the Northern Lights this week as an ejection of material from the Sun gives a 'glancing blow' to Earth's atmosphere. The Met Office's Space Weather forecast says there could be signs of Aurora Borealis on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

"You might want to look up at the sky tonight", the Met Office says, with the Northern Lights expected to light up parts of the UK.

The Northern Lights may be visible across some parts of the UK tonight. There could be signs of Aurora Borealis on Friday, September 13, through to Saturday, September 14.

The lights may be the most visible in Canada and Alaska, but states from Washington to New York may be in the viewline.

People can see the Northern Lights over the Massachusetts and Vermont-New Hampshire border, according to the Space and Weather Prediction Center.

The Northern Lights were recorded as far south as Kent but those in northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland had the best show. Although weaker, there’s another chance to see the aurora borealis tonight (Friday 13) by finding a spot with as little light pollution and clouds as possible.
