CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service has extended a flood watch into early Saturday morning for nearly all of West Virginia.

Senator Shelley Moore Capito tells 7News the White House is set to approve the West Virginia Flood Disaster Declaration to unlock FEMA early next week. This involves last month’s fatal and disastrous flash flooding that left nine people dead and multiple homes and businesses destroyed.

Flood Watch issued by NWS Baltimore MD/Washington due to excessive rainfall, with potential flash flooding in DC, MD, VA, and WV. Heavy showers expected; weekly forecast includes thunderstorms and high humidity.

The National Weather Service urged people to avoid travel if a flash flood warning was in place for their area.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The atmosphere over West Virginia could produce heavy storms any afternoon over the next several days, according to the National Weather Service.

Today, 17 million are under flood alerts across the Gulf Coast and in the Mid-Atlantic, and 19 million are under heat alerts across the Mid-Atlantic, southern Florida and Mississippi Valley.
