Washington — The Senate could move forward as soon as Tuesday on a request from the White House to claw back $9.4 billion in funds for international aid and public broadcasting as Congress faces a Friday deadline to act.

It cuts $9 billion of previously approved federal funding for foreign aid and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. CPB, which funds NPR and PBS, stands to be hit with a $1.9 billion budget cut.

Paula Kerger, PBS president, warns that a $500 million funding cut could severely impact rural stations, eliminating up to 50% of their resources and jeopardizing educational programming.
