In January 1999, Ronell Crutchfield was apprehended after he tried to escape from the St. Lucie County Jail. During recreation time, he was accused of scaling a 15-foot-high fence topped with razor wire, according to records. He climbed onto a roof, ran across it and jumped down, where a deputy caught him.
While the manhunt continued for five New Orleans inmates, another Louisiana inmate escaped a different jail – for the second time.
