Newgarden is scheduled to start 32nd for the May 25 race after IndyCar ruled his crew illegally modified an attenuator for fast 12 qualifying. Newgarden has 31 race wins, the most among active American drivers,

"Nothing is more important than the integrity of our sport and our race teams," team owner Roger Penske said.

“There’s a certain amount of credibility you have to have. It’s integrity — individually and collectively (with) our team (and) the sport — and I think we let people down.”
