The order preserves the ability of foreign students to travel to the U.S. for study at Harvard while the case is decided.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration escalated its feud with Harvard University on Wednesday, declaring the Ivy League school may no longer meet the standards for accreditation and that it would subpoena it for records about its international students.

The Trump administration dialed up its pressure on Wednesday, threatening the school’s accreditation and formally subpoenaing it for records related to enrollment of international students. The Departments of Education and Health and Human Services notified the New England Commission of Higher Education that Harvard “may fail to meet the standards for accreditation” after the agencies recently determined the university violated federal civil rights law by failing to protect Jewish and Israeli students on campus.
