JERUSALEM — The war in the Gaza Strip has reached one of its darkest periods. Israel's blockade of all food and supplies enters its 12th week. The military has launched another major offensive against Hamas, including “extensive” ground operations.

Negotiations continue for a Gaza ceasefire, with reports Hamas is prepared to release a number of the surviving hostages in return for Palestinian prisoners and a 60 day truce

Israel and Hamas resumed ceasefire talks on Saturday in Qatar, both sides said, even as Israeli forces ramped up a bombing campaign that has killed hundreds of people over 72 hours, and mobilised for a massive new ground assault.
