Ice buildup likely played a role in the crash of an ATR turboprop plane near here last month, killing 62 people in the country’s deadliest airline crash in nearly two decades, Brazilian investigators said.

Investigators say the pilots of a Brazilian passenger plane that crashed last month, killing all 62 people aboard, reported failure in the system to remove ice from the plane.

Audio from the cockpit's voice recorder included comments from pilots indicating ice was accumulating and the deicing system was failing, Paulo Froes, an investigator in the air force's center for the investigation and prevention of air accidents, told reporters in Brasilia.

Investigators have released preliminary information on the still-mysterious crash of a Voepass airliner that killed all 62 on board in Brazil this summer.
