By Lucy Papachristou (Reuters) -Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a surprise one-day ceasefire in Ukraine for Easter on Saturday, but Kyiv said attacks continued, Putin couldn't be trusted and Moscow should instead accept a 30-day truce Kyiv had agreed to last month.

Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered his forces to cease all military activity against Ukraine until midnight Sunday in what appeared to be an attempt to assuage an increasingly impatient Trump administration and demonstrate Moscow’s interest in peace talks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, under pressure from Washington to show willingness to make peace in Ukraine, proposed on Monday bilateral talks with Kyiv for the first time in years, and said he was open to more ceasefires after a one-day Easter truce.
