Russia fired 273 exploding drones at multiple regions of Ukraine after President Donald Trump announced he would be speaking with Vladimir Putin on Monday.

But Russia's preferred deep-strike weapon — the Shahed drone — has gotten some major upgrades since the start of the year, including jet engines and Starlink satellite attachments, putting pressure on Ukraine's already strained air defense.

Ukrainian defenders shot down 80 Shahed-type strike drones, as well as drones of other types launched by the Russian occupiers on Wednesday night, the Telegram channel of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.

The unilateral ceasefire coincides with the celebrations in Moscow for the 80th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, Russia’s biggest secular holiday. Kyiv has pressed for a longer-term cease-fire.
