CNN generated confusion on Friday after it announced it would host a GOP debate at a New Hampshire college next month, but the college said it had no knowledge of it.

The Republican National Committee released the party’s presidential candidates Friday to organize their own debates next month before the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary, a shift in policy that could increase the number of showdowns and allow the highest polling candidates to limit access to their rivals.

CNN will host a pair of Republican presidential primary debates in January, the network announced Thursday. The first will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, on Jan. 10 and the second will be broadcast
