China and Russia conducted joint military drills in the waters and airspace of the Sea of Japan from September 11 to 15, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported on Sunday. It said the drills, which have been named Northern/Interaction-2024,

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the war games, which span both hemispheres, are the largest of their kind in three decades.

China's Defense Ministry has announced joint naval and air drills with Russia starting this month, underscoring the closeness between their militaries as Russia presses its grinding invasion of Ukraine.

Second such joint drills in as many years come amid tensions between Beijing and Tokyo over support for US efforts to pressure China.
