A weather system moving across Florida wasn’t even a tropical something but it has the potential to develop into a tropical depression as it moves across the Gulf later in the week. National
AccuWeather forecasters are keeping an eye on an area close to Florida which shows some potential for tropical development July 15-18.
Tropical Storm Chantal formed in the Atlantic on Saturday morning and is projected to reach South Carolina's coast on Sunday, the National Hurricane Center said.
The hatched areas on the National Hurricane Center's tropical outlook map indicate "areas where a tropical cyclone — which could be a tropical depression, tropical storm or hurricane — could develop," said National Hurricane Center Deputy Director Jamie Rhome.
Tropical Depression Three formed on Friday afternoon off the coast of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. As of Friday evening, the depression had winds of 35 mph, moving slowly north at 2 mph. The storm was weak and relatively disorganized but is expected to strengthen slightly into a tropical storm this weekend.
