AccuWeather forecasters are keeping an eye an area for potential tropical development near Florida July 14-17.

The hatched areas on the National Hurricane Center's tropical outlook map indicate "areas where a tropical cyclone — which could be a tropical depression, tropical storm or hurricane — could develop," said National Hurricane Center Deputy Director Jamie Rhome.

A slow-developing weather system is trying to get its act together over the Southeast U.S. this Fourth of July.

A weather system over Florida may become Tropical Storm Dexter later this week, raising flood risks. Authorities also introduced new reporting laws on weather modification amid rising public concerns.

Tropical downpours could begin as soon as Thursday, a map from AccuWeather said, and continue through Sunday. Nearly all of Florida is expecting the rain, as well as Southeastern Georgia, Eastern South Carolina and Eastern North Carolina.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Attention is on the Florida Peninsula, where the National Hurricane Center has highlighted a medium (40%) chance of tropical development over the next seven days. While the outlook does not indicate an imminent storm threat, we are closely monitoring the evolving pattern.

Tropical conditions are expected to be quiet as Saharan dust and wind shear help prevent any storm development.

The Atlantic Basin hurricane season has produced three tropical storms so far. This hurricane season has been very active during the past few weeks.
