Details of the indictment are scant, but The Washington Post reports that in special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation, Trump has been charged with seven counts, including illegal retention of government secrets,

Trump was indicted on seven counts, according to a person who has been briefed on the case. The charges related to the classified documents recovered at Mar-a-Lago come just over two months after Trump's first indictment in New York by a grand jury on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

Since an FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago in August, investigators have been determining whether Trump deliberately set out to obstruct efforts to recover classified documents.

Special counsel Jack Smith has spent months investigating Trump's retention of sensitive national security information at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
