LACEY, NJ – Firefighters have made progress containing a massive wildfire burning in central New Jersey that threatened to become the largest blaze in the state in nearly 20 years, officials said.

A huge wildfire continued burning in New Jersey on Wednesday, spanning 11,500 acres and prompting evacuation orders that have since been lifted.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Jones Road Fire burning near Barnegat, New Jersey had consumed 1,200 acres and was uncontrolled. Part of the Garden State Parkway is closed near Waretown.
