Full Shade to Full Sun (Can Grow In Most Sunlight Conditions)Mature Height 3 - 4.5 FeetMature Spread 3 - 4.5 FeetGrowing Zones 5b - 8The NewGen Independence® Boxwood has the classic good looks that make boxwood shrubs a favorite with many gardeners. This fast-growing evergreen shrub is also low maintenance and hardy. The deep green foliage retains its color even throughout the winter, for dependable color all year long. The oval-shaped foliage is slightly more elongated than other cultivars, with leaves growing in pairs on woody upright stems. An upright, naturally rounded growth habit gives the NewGen Independence® Boxwood a lovely shape, while the dense branching form creates dense greenery and can support a snow load in northern regions. Plant this boxwood along a fence, foundation, or border to create a hedge or define an outdoor space. Line a walkway or brighten up an area in need of lush greenery. The NewGen Independence® Boxwood is deer-resistant and grows as a perennial in USDA zones 5b through 8. It can survive in 5a as well, but may get a little winter burn during harsher winters.NewGen Independence® Boxwood CarePlant in full sun or partial shade. The NewGen Independence® Boxwood will need regular and deep watering for the first year but need average watering once acclimated. Soil high in organic content will support new growth. The soil should also be moist but well-drained.Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant to retain moisture, cut down on weeds, and provide a nutritional boost. Fertilize the plant starting in the second growing season using balanced plant food. A light trim in the winter or early spring will ensure consistent growth.NewGen Independence® Boxwood SpacingNewGen Independence® Boxwood has an upright, mounded growth habit that will grow 3 to 4.5 feet tall and wide.
