Turkens (Naked Necks) Chickens will make an excellent addition to your farm. Turkens are actually a breed of chicken, and not half chicken and half turkey. They are a unique chicken with a bare neck like the turkey, and with very little feathering around the breast and wing areas. with less than half the feathers of other breeds, this dual purpose breed is much easier to pluck than your average table fowl. In spite of their lack of feathers, these chickens are very cold weather tolerant and can take heat better than most breeds. The naked neck gene is dominant so any first generation crosses will show the naked neck. Turkens thrive in either a confinement or free-range environment. Hens begin to lay around 6 months of age with adequate daylight hours. These chickens are friendly and easy to tame, plus they make for great conversation with curious neighbors!
