Holstein Bench Medici Stradivarius Viola, Antique / 16" - The quality and dimensions of the wood and varnish are copied from the original to achieve the same tonal qualities of the pricelessMedici contralto which was part of a set of instruments, five in number, which were made by Stradivari in 1690 for Cosimo di Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. The original has been described as "one of the finest of the ten existing examples of the maker, its preservation being as remarkable as the beauty of its appearance." At Fiddlershop, we are proud to offer this stunning replica which produces a warm and deep tone comparable to a vintage instrument, with the projection and response of a modern viola.Available in sizes from 15" to 16.5" These violas are bench made (made exclusively by one master Luthier)!; Aged Select Russian Spruce and Select Maple sourced from high altitude forests (100+ year old wood, aged and dried 20+ years); Highest Quality Hill-style Boxwood or Ebony fittings. The standard varnish option is usually set up with ebony fittings, and the antique varnish with boxwood.; Highest Quality Ebony Fingerboard; Deluxe Aubert Mirecourt French-made Bridge (or Despiau 3-tree); Strings depends on what we think works best with the specific viola!; Comes with a Quality Oblong Case; The Standard Varnish is an Italian oil varnish with mild antique; -We currently have a limited number of Medici Strad Violas with an antique varnish option.
