The sprays of yellow flowers are one of the earliest flowers in the garden and are followed by blue berries that add interest in the fall. In colder areas the leaves turn deep burgundy in winter. It makes the perfect ground-cover for shady areas beneath larger shrubs and trees, and the foliage is beautiful all year round. Although evergreen this is a hardy plant and will grow easily from zone 4 to zone 8 and even into zone 2 with slight winter damage.
